Schools

Overview

School students are an important
population; students today will be tomorrow’s voters, policy makers,
leaders, innovators and consumers.

We have developed teachers’ resources
and knowledge in an effort to improve genetic literacy in the
Australian population.

Our resources include:

  • stimulus material for student
    engagement and discussion
  • syllabus-aligned activities for
    classroom use
  • visualisations based on
    authentic scientific data
  • evidence-based approaches
    (eg. argumentation)
  • real-life contemporary contexts
    that address socio-scientific issues
  • curated guides of freely-available
    online resources.

Health care

Overview

Access to genomic testing is expanding through specialist services, research
studies and online DNA, or direct-to-consumer, testing.

GPs are increasingly expected to
understand and communicate genomic information, and support patients undergoing genomic testing.

Physicians and other medical specialists have many important roles in clinical genomics including identifying when patients may benefit from genomic testing, discussing testing and results with
patients, liaising with laboratories, interpreting reports and acting on results.

We have developed resources to assist physicians and GPs with these roles

Community

Overview

An introduction to clinical genomics – the science and technology behind it, its application in healthcare, and its life-changing impact.

The DNA Base comunity resources include:

DNA and disease,
the genetics of cancer and heart conditions

A collection of genomics images and resources from 360 degree views of your genome to analogies about genomics tests and discussions of genomics across a lifetime.
